In 1914, a man named Joseph Sharff opened "Sharff Glass" in Canton, Ohio. Joseph grew his business and gained local respect before selling Sharff Glass to his nephew-in-law, Sam Frankel, in 1954.

Sam's children, Morton and Jules, as well as his son-in-law, Stanley Cowan, continued to run the family business for the next 40 years until retiring and selling the business to an employee of 29 years, Floyd Everhart.
